Welcome 2010

With some time off work and the weather being spectacular, we took some time outdoors. This is our neighborhood park.

Jeff giving his first sports lesson. Can you see the ball flying in mid-air just to the right of Jeff's bicep? Line drive, seriously.

Picnic brunch at the park. Blue skies, 75 degrees, snow-capped mountains in the distance, birds chirping. This is how we do it in the OC.

This was too cute. Enzo grabbed his book of shapes and took off running free. He's a very balanced (and well-read) athlete.

Enzo is soo allergic to our dog, Murphy. And soo obsessed with airplanes.

Getting a bit comfortable in his new leatherette big boy chair. His father taught him how to get the pillow off the couch and swing his legs over the side arm of the chair. This is called "kicking back."

More relaxing with a snack at his new table and chairs. Ever since he was introduced to mini-sized furniture at our church's nursery school, he has become obsessed with pulling out a chair, maneuvering himself into it and placing any item on a table. Then, he smiles. It's pretty fantastic.

Every time we suit up to play with bikes or cars in the front yard, Enzo makes a beeline to the side yard gate to say hello to Murphy. Please take note of the plastic Mary, Joseph, and Jesus in our neighbors' yard. For some reason, Jeff and I get a kick out of them. Especially after a few gusts of wind when they end up face-down in the grass. Last year, Jeff exclaims "Look, Mary and Joseph had a long night of drinking." Blasphemous, but hilarious. We laugh every time we look at them.

Jeff and I had a long discussion about whether we were going to enforce the helmet rule with a tricycle. I knew what Jeff's preference would be. I mean, this is the man who won't leave the garage on his bike without his helmet because he has to "protect his investment." (College tuition.) He persuaded me when he said that it would only make things more difficult later on when Enzo's on two-wheels and we try to get him to wear one. I agreed. Helmet it is. Enzo doesn't seem to mind all that much.

After swinging at the ball with a bat outside and with his hand when we're indoors, here is genious Enzo using his head.

Again.

And here is Enzo being done with practice.
